Light Tackle fishing the wrecks and reef have long been a great way to enjoy the day fishing from the Florida keys. The reef and wrecks are relatively close to the islands offering bountiful fishing. The boats our fishing guides use are very fast, versatile and great fishing platforms for all sorts of technical and fun fishing. Kite, live bait, fly fishing, trolling, and artificial are all techniques you can use on our wreck and reef fishing charters here in the Florida Keys.

The Wrecks

Scattered all over the Florida Keys with the largest concentration off of Key West out to the Dry Tortugas. Some are sunk on purpose, others found their fate in storms. West of the Marquesas Keys there are many that were used for targeting. All of them worth visiting for the fishing and adventure offering a mixed bag of fish such as Cobia, Permit, Huge Barracudas, Kingfish, sharks, Goliath Groupers, Groupers, Snappers, Amber Jacks and More.

The Reefs

All along the Florida Keys are the reefs. The only living coral reefs in the continental US. Stretching from Miami all the way past the Dry Tortugas these reefs are alive with a huge ecosystem. Super versatile to fish as there are reefs on both sides of the island chain Reef fishing is a great way to enjoy your day on the water here in Key West and the Florida Keys. Fish shallow on the patch reefs in 15 - 35 ft of water or use the mid reefs to fish in 80 - 130 ft of water, venture out a bit farther to the humps and ledges to fish to depths of 700 ft. using electric reels for deep dropping. All areas are great for bottom fish such as Groupers and Snappers with a side order of Pelagic species such as Kingfish, Mackerel, Tuna, Wahoo, Sailfish, Dolphin and more.

The Dry Tortugas

A specialty trip offered by only a handful of fishing guides this trip is by far the ultimate in wreck reef light tackle fishing. Some guides offer overnight 2 day trips, others offer day trips. A National Park Permit is required to fish inside park boundaries. Trips and costs vary.

The Boats

Using a center console boat 29 - 38 ft in length and generally twin or triple out board powered (pictured above) the light tackle center console boats are about the most versatile offshore fishing machine available for Wreck and Reef light tackle fishing. Able to sustain over 32knts with some that cruise around 40 you can be sure to get to the fishing grounds quickly and have a stable fishing platform while you are there.

The Wreck and Reef Fishing Guides

The fishing guides on these boats are well devised in many ways of angling to show you the best time ever. They have many years of experience and lots of spots to fish. Working with you one on one you are sure to learn allot from these well seasoned watermen as they teach you how to catch the fish of a lifetime and take some home for dinner.

The Methods of Fishing

Bottom fishing, drift baiting, kite fishing, trolling, live baiting are just a few of the styles of fishing you will enjoy when fishing with one of our pros. Bring a fly rod along to add to the challenge.

The Charters

Trips of this nature are 4, 6, and 8 hours long depending on your preference. Geared toward not more than 4 persons. We suggest that if you want to experience all that this kind of charter has to offer to book the 8 hour trip with no limits. If budget allows, this charter will impress you to no end with great fishing in areas like the Dry Tortugas, Marquesas, and deep gulf wrecks. Species to fish for on these trips are Grouper, Snapper, Jacks, Permit, Cobia, Sailfish, Tuna, African Pompano, Mutton Snappers, Sharks, Reef Species, Goliath Grouper, Jewfish, Barracudas and many more.
